Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 13 : BJP district secretary Shivanand Rai and other party workers offered a saree to Ganga river on Monday for the well-being and longevity of Prime Minister Modi in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on Monday.
Prime Minister Modi will file his nomination from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat on May 14.
In the ceremony, a 400-metre-long saree was offered to the River Ganga as part of the ritual.
Rai told ANI, "To ensure the well-being and longevity of PM Modi, we have offered a saree to Maa Ganga."

Rai explained that the length of the saree symbolizes PM Modi's ambition to secure over 400 seats in the upcoming 2024 elections. Despite the river being only 290 metres wide, a 400-metre saree was chosen to represent this goal.
"The width of the river is 290 metres but the saree is 400 metres long to pray to Maa Ganga to bless PM Modi in achieving his vision of securing over 400 seats in the 2024 elections. After his 2014 nomination, he stated that "Maa Ganga had called him." PM Modi has modified Kashi and all of its ghats. So we thought why not take blessings from Maa Ganga for PM Modi, who I consider as 'Ganga Putra'," he said.

Rai also shared his belief that in every era, God reincarnates in human form. In this era, he sees Narendra Modi as a god-like figure due to his unparalleled contributions to the country.
"In every era, god reincarnates himself in human form. In this era, I consider Narendra Modi a god because he has done what no one could do for the country. His vision till 2047 says it all... A few days ago I gave a slogan 'Kashi ke dil mein Modi aur Modi ke dil mein Kashi, Bharat ke dil mein Modi aur Modi ke dil mein Bharat...' Modi Ji said Maa Ganga has called him, he is the true son of Maa Ganga... He has done impeccable work for Kashi and all visitors thank him for that," he said.
Prime Minister Modi will file his nomination from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat on May 14.
Varanasi is the stronghold of the BJP and PM Modi. He won the seat twice- the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress has pitted Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai against PM Modi in Varanasi.
This is the third time Ajay Rai will face PM Modi in a Lok Sabha contest. Voting in Varanasi will be held on June 1 in the seventh phase.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, PM Modi won the seat with over 674,664 votes and commanded a vote share of 63.6 per cent. In 2014, PM Modi contested two Lok Sabha seats- from Gujarat's Vadodara and Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi.
