Fresh violence reported in Manipur; watch exclusive UAV visuals from areas of Sugnu, Serou

Imphal(Manipur), June 06 (ANI): Security forces are conducting search operations in Sugnu, Serou of Manipur after an exchange of fire. Extensive area domination operations by Assam Rifles, BSF and Police undertaken in Manipur. Intermittent firing between Security Forces and a group of insurgents took place throughout the night of June 5-6. BSF jawan Ct/GD Ranjit Yadav, who sustained a bullet injury was evacuated to Jivan Hospital has been declared dead. Security Forces effectively retaliated to the fire and operations to sanitise the area under progress. 2 AK series Rifles, 51 mm mortar, 2 Carbines, Ammunition & warlike stores were recovered from the general area. Additional 7 columns were re-deployed in the area to beef up ongoing area domination operations. Operations are a result of extensive area domination by Security Forces in Sugnu, Serou of Manipur. Manipur witnessed a violent clash on May 3 during a rally organised by All Tribals Students Union (ATSU). They were protesting against the demand for the inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST category.
