China may launch military drills amid President Lai's Pacific trip and US transit: Report

China is expected to conduct military drills near Taiwan, using Taiwanese President William Lai's Pacific trip and rumoured US stopovers as a pretext. Lai's scheduled visit to three Pacific allies, which may include Hawaii and Guam, has drawn Beijing's ire. Chinese officials condemned Lai's transit as provocative, and experts believe the exercises could be part of Beijing's strategy to assert its influence in the region during a US administration transition.
