Incorporating climate change effects to enhance mental health services: WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) has stressed the increasing impact of climate change on mental health in Southeast Asia, urging improvements in mental health systems. Saima Wazed, WHO South-East Asia Regional Director, highlighted the need to integrate climate change into mental health policies, address knowledge and funding gaps, and adopt community-based approaches. With 260 million people in the region facing mental health issues and over 200,000 annual suicides, the WHO's Action Plan and past declarations call for strengthened services, policy updates, and stigma reduction.
