Nepali medieval town celebrates traditional 'Jatra' procession as substitute for 'Dashain'

The medieval town of Khokana in Lalitpur recently celebrated its traditional "Shikali Jatra," a vibrant five-day festival held in place of Dashain. Featuring masked dancers representing various Hindu deities, the festival honours Goddess Rudrayani, also known as Shikali or Mother Goddess. The Jatra incorporates Tantric rituals and performances that reflect the community's cultural heritage and beliefs, showcasing the town's unique traditions and strong agricultural ties.
