As the world marks AIDS Day, India’s Gujarat state continues to strengthen its healthcare system with initiatives focused on public health, medical infrastructure, and support for vulnerable communities. A major highlight is the state’s proactive approach to AIDS awareness and prevention. Working closely with National AIDS Control Organisation in Delhi, the Gujarat State AIDS Control Society (GSACS) leads efforts ranging from blood safety and counselling to district-level awareness drives. The Gujarat State AIDS Control Society (GSACS), part of the Gujarat State Health and Family Welfare Department, works in coordination with NACO, the national body under the Government of India, to support people living with HIV (PLHIV). Across Gujarat, we provide free medical check-ups for all PLHIV patients. There are 48 government-run ART centres in the state where these services are available at no cost. Gujarat has 61 STI centres offering free testing and treatment, along with ICTC centres providing no-cost check-ups. Mobile medical buses further extend services to villages and remote areas.
