Verdi’s Opera ‘Stiffelio’ premieres at New Opera Theatre in Moscow

Moscow (Russia), Oct 15, 2022, (ANI / TV BRICS): Love and betrayal, Truth and deceit. All these emotions are at an all-time high in the first Russian production of Giuseppe Verdi's Opera "Stiffelio". Recently, its premiere took place at the New Opera theatre in Moscow. The hero of the Eponymous work is a Protestant Priest. The Infidelity of his wife becomes too hard an ordeal for him. His wife’s deception forces him to rethink his relationship with the outside world even with the almighty himself. The play of passions is tinged with Victorian restraint. This is quite evident both in the costumes and the design of the stage. With a minimal setting, the mood of the play is created with the help of lights and shadows. The Opera belongs to the early period of the great composer’s work. It was written in the mid nineteenth century. Even today, it is not easy to live up to maestro Verdi’s demands. The ambiguity and complexity of the characters make the tragic finale seem inevitable. The point in the plot is a bloody scarlet colour. And only the last words, a quotation from the gospel about forgiveness, which sounds on the stage, leave hope: Hatred will not defeat love.
