Pak exploiting Gilgit-Baltistan’s water resources: Activist Senge Sering at UNHRC

Geneva (Switzerland), Sep 11 (ANI): Director of Institute of Gilgit-Baltistan Studies and activist Senge H Sering on September 11 slammed Pakistan at 42nd session of United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session for exploiting water resources of the region. The activist said that Pak is exploiting Gilgit-Baltistan’s rivers and almost 60 per cent of drinking and agriculture water coming into Pakistan is through the region. “Pakistan is exploiting our rivers, almost 60% of the water that comes into Pakistan for drinking and agriculture that comes through Gilgit-Baltistan, so Gilgit-Baltistan is called the water tank in the Karakoram that feeds into one side in the Xinjiang and one side into Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan,” said Sering. The Director of Institute of Gilgit Baltistan Studies (Washington DC) added that Pakistan has been using the water resources without paying a single penny to the local residents of Gilgit Baltistan. “Pakistan has been using the water resources without paying a single penny to the local people. Billions of millions of dollars they owe to the local people but they have not been able to respect the right of the local people,” added Sering.
