Rajasthan to hold Rural Olympics from August 29 to October 2

Jaipur (Rajasthan) May 9 (ANI): A review meeting of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. During the meeting, Chief Minister Gehlot said that Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympics will be organised from August 29 to October 2 to build an atmosphere for sports on an extensive scale in the State. The sports will be organised at the level of gram panchayat, block, district and state which would encourage sports and sportspersons. The CM said that for the first time in the country, an ambitious event of Rural Olympics is being organised in which around 27 lakh sportspersons across the State will be taking part. He said that in Rural Olympics, competitions of kabaddi, shooting, volleyball, tennis ball cricket, kho-kho and hockey will be organised at 11,341 gram panchayats, 352 blocks, 33 districts and at the state level. The CM also underlined that this event will become a major medium for the talent hunt in the State and Rajasthan in the future will be counted among the leading states in the country in the field of sports. Financial approval of Rs 40 crore has been given for this event. He directed the officers to widely publicise this event.
