Nepal Interim PM Sushila Karki briefs diplomats, vows stability ahead of 2026 Elections

Nepal’s Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Friday held her first high-level diplomatic briefing since assuming office, marking one month of her interim government’s formation. In her briefing the interim prime minister assured the diplomats that the Himalayan Nation is steadily returning to normalcy, as the government intensifies efforts to restore stability, promote transparency, and combat corruption. The Prime Minister also briefed the international community about the update on overall situation in Nepal and informed the diplomats about the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives, scheduled for March 5, 2026. Karki, leading a small eight-member interim cabinet, reiterated that her primary objective is to ensure the successful conduct of the 2026 parliamentary elections. She plans to step down immediately after the new lower house convenes, paving the way for a fully elected government. With the parliament dissolved and elections approaching, Nepal enters a crucial phase of political transition, balancing domestic reforms with sustained international cooperation.
