Security tightens at Nepal-India border as Bihar elections begin

Nov 06, 2025

Janakpur (Nepal), Nov 06 (ANI): Security along the Nepal–India border in Dhanusha district has been intensified as the staggered elections in Bihar begins today. Both Nepali and Indian security forces have heightened monitoring and patrolling at the Jatahi border point adjoining India. On Thursday, the border crossing was shut from 6 AM to 6 PM (local time) in line with the start of the first phase of the Bihar state assembly elections. Indian authorities stated that the temporary closure is aimed at strengthening security in the border region during the election period and deterring any possible untoward incidents. Security personnel from both sides have been deployed in the area, and the administrations of Nepal and India are coordinating efforts to maintain high-alert security and conduct stricter checks. The first phase of elections in Bihar, India, is taking place today for 121 assembly constituencies. The second phase, covering 122 constituencies, is scheduled for November 11.
