NMCG Signs MoU with Universities for River Rejuvenation

New Delhi, Apr 12 (ANI): In an effort to make Namami Gange a mass movement, the National Mission for Clean Ganga -NMCG signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with around 50 universities to foster awareness among the students on water conservation and river rejuvenation. The event's theme was ‘Igniting Young Minds, Rejuvenating Rivers’. Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat presided over the MoU signing ceremony with universities in the presence of G. Asok Kumar, Director General, Ms Archana Varma, Additional Secretary & Managing Director, National Water Mission, Dr. T.G. Sitharam, Chairman, All India Council of Technical Education, D.P. Mathuria, Executive Director NMCG along with Chancellors, Vice-chancellors and Deans of several universities in the country. While addressing the gathering, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat focused on the prime objectives of the Namami Gange Mission and appealed to the universities to embolden the people-river connect. Through this initiative, many higher educational institutes pledged their support towards the cause of river rejuvenation and are ready to create holistic platforms to become conscious participants in developing a sustainable ecosystem. The MoU signing was aimed at bringing student community to spearhead the ‘Namami Gange’ mission and help in creating a sustainable ecosystem for the water bodies and biodiversity in the country. This ceremony was the culmination of the monthly webinar series 'Igniting Young Minds: Rejuvenating Rivers' organized by NMCG with representatives of universities.
