BJP slams Congress for insulting President Murmu, demands apology

New Delhi, July 28 (ANI): BJP launched a fresh attack on Congress after the party’s MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury used the term “Rashtrapatni” for the Honourable President of India during a protest inside the Parliament premises on July 27 and said that Congress has been insulting President Droupadi Murmu ever since she was declared as a nominee for the President and demanded an apology in the Parliament. While addressing a press conference, Union Minister Smriti Irani said, “Ever since Droupadi Murmu was nominated for President post she was targeted maliciously by Congress and the attacks do not seem to stop against her even after being elected as President.” “The Congressman knew that this way to address the Pres of India not only demeans her constitutional post but also the rich tribal legacy she represents. He knew that to demean Pres in such fashion is to demean the potential of women in our country. Under Sonia Gandhi's leadership, Congressmen continue to demean the women in constitutional posts. Congress for demeaning the first tribal President of our country needs to apologise in Parliament and on the streets of India,” she added.
