Sheopur (MP), September 11 (ANI): The world’s fastest land animal is set to make a comeback in India on Sep 17 almost after 50 years of becoming extinct. PM Modi will visit Kuno National Park on his 72nd birthday, marking the beginning of ambitious program to reintroduce cheetahs in India. PM will release cheetahs imported from Africa into Madhya Pradesh on September 17. This is for the first time a big cat is being moved from one continent to another and being reintroduced to forests. Cheetahs went extinct in India in 1952 after extensive hunting by the Indian nobility and the British during the colonial period. Around 20 cheetahs are expected to come to India from South Africa and Namibia. MP CM Shivraj Chouhan, Forest Minister Bhupender Yadav on Sep 11 inspected Kuno National Park ahead of PM Modi’s visit.
